You can supply much more information to your customers with a website
than from other methods of marketing:
- You can use it to accept email orders
- It can be your brochure
- You can use it to attract new customers – outside of your local area
There are five main steps when developing a new website:
- Decide what you want to get from your website
- Decide what tools you will use to attract new clients
- Decide how you will inform new and existing clients of products, services and cost
- Make it easy for your customers to contact the business through your website
- Decide how to provide support for product enquiries
You need to have a general idea of what you will eventually do with the site
as it could have a big impact on what type of host you choose.
- Think about what approach you will take.
- Remember a website is not static it develops, grows, changes on a fairly frequent basis alongside your business.
- What you think you will want today, may well be totally different to what you’ll need tomorrow.
The basic requirements to get started are:
- Tools to build the site
- Domain name
- Host provider
- Now what are you going to ask yourself?
- Based on your knowledge today of your business, you need to ask yourself:
- What results do you want from your website?
- Will you update the site yourself and frequently
- Are you going to sell products from the website
- Is the website just going to be a brochure for the company
- What will your customers wish to get from your website
- What is your budget?
- These are the main areas to consider
- What the site will look and feel like the lay out and navigation
- The design
- Will it be accessible to all visitors
- What is the colour scheme
- Will there be podcasts, pictures, text, etc
