I’m sure a lot of you already know this, but one of the ways to get more customers is to find out how people actually search for your products.
Simple eh?
Well if you’re not sure – here’s my advice:
- First step is take a look at your websites keywords and write them down on a piece of paper.
- Next thing is to type in those keywords into Google Search and see who ranks highest. Is it you?
- If not, now click on a few of these sites, see if they are your competitors and then take a look at the other keywords they use. (Go to ‘View’ then ‘Page Source’. you’ll get a list of coding and somewhere towards the top of the page will be keywords – write those down on your paper)
- Now go to to your search bar and type in http://www.adwords.google.co.uk/KeywordToolExternal and when it opens up there will be abox that you type all of your keywords into. You can do it one word at a time or all at one.
- What you should now be seeing is a list of keywords with the search volumes along side them. For now focus on the Local Search( that’s the first column with numbers)
- Now take a look at the bars that are immediately after the keywords – these are your competitors. The more colour in these boxes the greater the competition!
What you need to do now is to decide whether you have the right keywords or if you need new ones.
- Look for the highest searches next to the lowest competition.
- What do you see?
- You ideally need to have keywords with over 1,000 searches as a starting point, so in most instances you can forget any keywords that fall under that point.
- Are people searching for words you’ve not thought about?
There’s more to it than this, if you want to learn more keep watching this page!
